Providing a sense of empowerment over the city with a view:
A proposal originally conceived in 1999 to connect two Phoenix neighborhoods became a reality as an addition to the “Feast On The Streets” in April of 2013 put on by Roosevelt Row and Downtown Voices Coalition.
The Feast showcased a ½ mile long dining table on a downtown street. Our project placed a scissor lift on either end of the table. We asked people to sign a waiver and put on a harness, then lifted them 35 feet in the air to get a view of the festivities and the surrounding city. They could also view the other person and lift through binoculars.
By providing a different viewpoint of the town, we hoped they would gain a sense of ownership of the public spaces. It was also quite a bit of fun.
