Two homes with identical floor plans make up a duplex close to downtown Tempe. Developed as a test of various building technologies that vali homes and coLAB studio have been developing for years- each home is unique so we may analyze differences in performance in order to strive towards greater energy efficiency, indoor health, and cost-benefit.

We use a lot of tools when we design, and this duplex is a showcase of many of them. We use energy efficiency applications like Sefaira to test various wall and roof assemblies. We use Building Image Modelling tools to test indoor day lighting and material efficiency to eliminate artificial light and construction waste where we can. And we use Biophilic Design patterns throughout to create a pleasant environment to spend time in- one that actually increases a person’s cognitive abilities, proven through multiple scientific studies.

The indoor air quality of these homes is second-to-none. We change out the indoor air every three hours and filter the incoming air through multiple filters that removes dust, pollen, and other pollutants. Air as fresh and clean as that of a hike in high mountains, yet right next to an urban center.

Our building technology systems will also make this one of the most energy efficient homes in our region.
